Coast Aluminum and Monti Inc. expand to Borderplex, add 70 jobs and $24 million investment
Expansion and Job Creation in Santa Teresa's Borderplex by Coast Aluminum and Monti Inc.
In a recent announcement by the New Mexico Economic Development Department (EDD), two companies, Coast Aluminum and Monti Inc., are set to bolster manufacturing and job opportunities in Santa Teresa's international Borderplex.
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham emphasized the state's commitment to investing in the international border to enhance infrastructure and facilitate global trade. The move aims to diversify the state's economy and create a manufacturing hub of excellence in Southern New Mexico.
Coast Aluminum, Inc. is establishing a 73,500-square-foot distribution center in the Santa Teresa Binational Industrial Park. The company, with locations across the U.S. and Mexico, specializes in distributing custom and in-stock aluminum materials, stainless steel, copper, brass, and architectural metal products. The Santa Teresa location was strategically chosen due to its proximity to existing customers and support from the New Mexico Partnership and the State of New Mexico. The EDD has pledged $350,000 from the Local Economic Development Act (LEDA) job-creation fund to support Coast Aluminum's $10 million expansion, creating 37 new jobs. Completion of the facility is expected by the end of the first quarter of 2024.
Monti Inc., a U.S.-based leader in industrial component manufacturing and fabrication, is undergoing an 80,000-square-foot renovation of a site on Airport Rd. in Santa Teresa. Upon completion, the facility will house 36 employees and serve as a regional hub for Monti's manufacturing and distribution of electrical components. The state is supporting Monti's expansion with $350,000 from the LEDA fund, and the company plans to invest $14 million in New Mexico.
Jerry Pacheco, a business advisor to the New Mexico Partnership, highlighted Santa Teresa's appeal to companies for expansion, citing the region's impressive manufacturing talent and superior logistics capabilities.
The Santa Teresa Port of Entry, a vital crossing between the United States and Mexico, plays a crucial role in facilitating trade. It has seen significant growth, with a record-breaking 160,000 trucks processed in 2022. The expansion projects by Coast Aluminum and Monti Inc., along with others like Franklin Mountain Packaging, Louisiana Pepper Exchange, and Hota Industrial, underscore the distribution and logistics advantages of the NM Borderplex region, positioning it as a recognized center of trade for North America.
